It’s My One-Year Blogiversary!

now is an opportune moment

One year ago today, I published my first post on An Opportune Moment.

Over the course of this last year, I’ve interned in Washington, DC, backpacked Europe for 3 and a half months, WWOOFed in Hawai’i, and roadtripped down the East Coast of the United States. I’ve crisscrossed New England, enjoyed countless cups of tea, competed in a film slam, and made a list of 25 things to do before I turn 25. I’ve hitchhiked, couchsurfed, felt lonely in foreign countries, and found out that I’m an optimist. I’ve traveled solo, with friends, with family, and I was even there when my boyfriend, E, flew on a plane for the first time in his life.

It’s been an amazing year, and I’m so grateful that this is my life.

Thank you to everyone who has been reading the whole time, and to everyone who finds this blog today, and decides it might be worth bookmarking.

In January 2012, I wrote “now is an opportune moment” on a post-it note and stuck it to my laptop in the hopes of inspiring myself to finish my senior thesis. The phrase stuck with me, became my title and my driving force when I decided to try this whole travel-blogging-thing.

This whole living-the-life-that-I-want-thing.

So, thank you again for reading, commenting, liking, and sharing my posts. I’m looking forward to seeing where An Opportune Moment goes during year two, and I hope you’ll keep following along!

Emma Holliday is well-traveled. After 5 years in Boston, she and her husband upended their lives to move to Berlin where she is currently writing a (funny) book about travel and grief and attempting to learn German.
