Tea Tuesday,  The Great European Adventure

Tea Tuesday: Also Tech Tuesday

Today’s Tea Tuesday is doubling as Tech Tuesday because this post is being written on my new iPad. I didn’t want to take my heavy Macbook with me on my trip so I decided to invest in an iPad and use it in lieu of a laptop for the duration of The Great European Adventure.

So far, I’m enjoying it, although, it is an adjustment from my Mac, which has all my photos, music, and bookmarks from the last 4 years of my life. It feels a little strange to start over on a new device; but, then again, I often jokingly call myself a luddite because I adapt to technological change slower than a lot of people I know. I’m sure I’ll get the hang of it.

But on to the tea. Today I’ve simply been enjoying a cup of Stash Coconut Mango Oolong Tea. It’s pretty delicious.

I’ve also been playing around with instagram. So those are the exciting technological and tea drinking developments in my life. Feel free to share any interesting teas you’ve been drinking or apps you’ve been enjoying in the comments.

Emma Holliday is well-traveled. After 5 years in Boston, she and her husband upended their lives to move to Berlin where she is currently writing a (funny) book about travel and grief and attempting to learn German.

Hi Emma, I was a toastmaster with your mom and she turned me on to your blog. Love it! I travelled around the world last summer to London, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Sydney, Maui and San Francisco and bought an iPad for the same reasons as you. I’m wondering how you’re finding it? For me, I found Mail really useless for cataloging emails (I’m self employed and email correspond for work.) I have many mailboxes on my Macbook Pro and there really was so way to sync the mailboxes, so I had to store them in 1 mailbox on my iPad during the trip, move them to my Inbox on my iPad and then move them to the appropriate mailbox on my laptop when I got home.

I’m living in Asia now, but am thinking of traveling for a few months over the holidays and am debating just bringing my laptop with me this time, so that I can actually get some work done. I also maintain a website and I need to edit and upload video at times. Anyway, I really like your blog. Keep it up!

I absolutely agree that mail is awful! I’ve just been accessing my gmail on safari, and it’s working all right, but I’m not sure what I’d do if I had a multi-box system like yours.

I’m having an difficult time adjusting to the wordpress app rather than the wordpress site, which doesn’t work on the ipad because it’s flash-based. The site has many more options, and allows me to customize my blog more; for example, I can’t caption photos on the app.

Otherwise, I’m finding the ipad really useful! The battery life and compact size are convenient for travel–particularly travel without much luggage.

And I’m so glad to hear you’re enjoying my blog! Where in Asia are you living? And what’s your website? If it’s about travel (or even if it’s not) I’d love to check it out!
