Meta-Blogging,  Summer in the City

On the move

This post is coming at you from my new apartment via stolen internet. Thank god for people who still don’t put passwords on their wireless networks. (Don’t worry, I have no intention of stealing my neighbors’ wifi forever–Verizon is just having trouble activating the internet in my apartment.)

Lack of consistent internet aside, this has been a busy week.

It started on Tuesday with packing up my apartment in Boston.

there’s a mattress under all of that

Then I spent one day at home in Rhode Island getting coffee with friends, visiting the ocean, and packing my bags to move to DC for the summer.

Because I took the train down to move into my apartment, and was unable to fill a car with boxes, I packed for DC the same way that I packed for my semester studying abroad–in one large suitcase and a duffle bag. As a result, I’m sleeping on an inflatable mattress and my room looks like this–

a bit sparse

Maybe it’s because I packed fewer possessions than usual or maybe it’s just because I obsessively read a DC guidebook last week, but, either way, I’m feeling like this move is really the start of my travels. I’ll be working full time this summer, but I’ll have my weekends (and nights) free to explore this new-to-me city.

I can’t wait to take advantage of everything summer in DC has to offer, and, of course, to share my experiences on this blog.

Emma Holliday is well-traveled. After 5 years in Boston, she and her husband upended their lives to move to Berlin where she is currently writing a (funny) book about travel and grief and attempting to learn German.
